PHILADELPHIA, Pa- When Gavin Grant was born, there was no doubt in his parents’ minds that he would go to college. Grant is also the vice president of Youth Action, a youth-run non-profit where college students help high school students apply and prepare for college. “Through surveys, we found that a lot of students weren’t doing so well in high school, so they saw that as an indication of how well they’d do in college,” Grant said.
I'm sure we've all heard how Russell Conwell founded Temple University in 1884 for workers to take night classes. While Temple's first student demographic might not resonate with many of us today, Syreeta Martin and Haniyyah Sharpe, the founders of Temple's Non-Traditional Student Union (TNTSU), would like for Temple to remember its roots.

Fast forward two years, and I finally had a seat at Buddakan's table for Philadelphia's Center City Restaurant Week (and the crowd cheers).

The college campus has always been an incubator for change and a battleground for political debate. Students exceptionally passionate about socio-political issues may take the route of college activism; that is, four years full of lectures, protests, documentary screenings – and yes – bake sales.

I’ve had recent discussions with friends about unified and politicized expression and fashion. Despite the fact that I do think a more uniform aesthetic could help social movements in the US right now, it’s important to note that people protesting are never viewed as civilized. Today's guest post comes to us from Temple University graduate, . Michelle is a freelance journalist who recently visited the Aida Refugee Camp in Israel. Her experience gave her a unique perspective on the turmoil surrounding the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
